2008 Season Recap

Posted Sunday, June 01, 2008 by David Newell

Dear Players, Parents and Fans,

I would like to thank all of you for making my first year coaching JV baseball at WHS a good one. As an alumni of the school, I am proud to be coaching here with the hope to turn the baseball program into a contender in years to come.

What a great group of guys I had an opportunity to coach this season. They were very hard working, eager to learn, good sports and they showed great improvement throughout the season. Although we only earned 2 wins, I believe there are positives that came out of the season and there are strengths that we can build on. Trust me when I say, I want to win as badly as all of you and am willing to put the time in just as the players are.

It is good to see many of the players participating in Senior League, Babe Ruth and legion baseball. The playing time and experience will be very beneficial. As these seasons begin to wrap up later in the summer, we are planning on doing an off-season baseball program. We will use the baseball field, the batting cages and weight room at West High. I will use this website to communicate times and dates, I will email the players and will send out a "group text" to their cell phones. Please contact me whenver you would like to field some groundballs, work on pitching, hit in the cage or anything else.

Keep playing ball and Go Vikings.

- Coach Dave Newell
